Medal Design:
A gilt and blue enamel cross with central medallion depicting allegorical female figure, circled by the inscription AL MÉRITO CIVIL. The cross is topped with a finely detailed gilt crown and suspended from a green enamel laurel wreath. The badge is mounted on its original full-length Commander’s neck ribbon in blue with white stripes. Reverse plain.

Condition:
For condition please refer to the photographs. The enamel is in very good condition with only minimal wear. Gilt shows natural patina consistent with age. The original ribbon is well preserved, with light handling traces but no major damage.

Historical and Collectible Significance:
The Order of Civil Merit was established in 1926 by King Alfonso XIII to honor distinguished service to the Spanish state and civil society. During the Francoist period, it continued to be awarded to high-ranking officials and foreign diplomats. This Commander’s Cross from the c.1945 Fascist State era represents an important collectible reflecting both Spanish honors history and Europe’s mid-20th century political context.
