A very fine and authentic example of the Imperial Russian Order of Saint Vladimir, 4th Class, Military Division, dating to the final years of the Russian Empire (circa 1917). This version features crossed swords, denoting a military award for bravery or distinguished service in battle, and retains its original black and red ribbon with sewn rosette.
Historical Background
Established by Catherine the Great on October 3, 1782, the Order of Saint Vladimir was awarded in four classes for long and exceptional service in the civil or military ranks. The 4th Class with Swords specifically recognized military distinction and was worn on the chest with a ribbon in the order's traditional colors.
