The unit was established on May 17, 1951 as the 73rd Mechanized Regiment. In September 1989, the Regiment took over the name and traditions of the Carpathian Lancers Regiment.

Jednostka powstała 17 maja 1951 r. jako 73 Pułk Zmechanizowany. We wrześniu 1989 r. pułk przejął nazwę i tradycje Pułku Ułanów Karpackich.
